What a night, eh? Sounds like a great concert, right? Unfortunately, it wasn't. WOW! Solid Grooves in concert! Instead of a full headliner set by Epps, he instead was the MC of a young group of relatively unknowns looking for their big break. In other words, what was advertised and printed on the ticket as "Solid Grooves in Concert" actually turned out to be a Russell Simmons Def Comedy Jam-inspired "Mike Epps Presents". I'm all for giving back and the whole "each one help one" credo, but when the ticket reads "(name of headliner) in Concert", you expect to get what you paid for, not something a full 180 degrees different. I wasn't the only one who bailed before the 2nd comic, either, and I don't think I was the only one booing when the true nature of the evening's festivities were revealed prior to Epps on-stage arrival. The ONLY reason I even stayed for the first performer was because my seat was at the end of the aisle and I was waiting for the right moment to make my climb over the rest of the people in my row. I suppose I'd feel slightly foolish if, when the programme eventually airs on Showtime, it turns out that Epps made it all worth while and ended the show with a headlining set, even a short one. But, since I thankfully no longer have Showtime, I guess I'll never found out. I hope my ticket to see Tracy Morgan next month doesn't end with a similar disappointment.
